Mossley Fire Station is 25 years old this year. The Mossley Town Team are holding a Summer Market there on Saturday June 21st from 10.30am until 2.30pm if people would like to go along, enjoy the market and see the fire station.

Book start

The Nursery children and Parents/Carers are invited to a Book start session in the Nursery on Friday 20th June at 11.25am. This session is to highlight the importance of books and reading in the child’s life. The children will all receive a free story book and encouragement to visit the library as an aid to learning to read fluently.

The Hobbit

A theatre group will be performing an adapted version of The Hobbit to all children in the main school on Thursday afternoon next week. There is no charge for this performance as it is an end of year treat from school. All performances in the past have been excellent so I hope this will be as good.

New Nursery and Reception children (new to the school) visits

Individual letters have been sent out giving details of the exact date and time of these visits. If any parent has not received an invitation please get in touch with school.

Nursery 2015

If you have a child who is three between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 please make sure you have put their name down for a Nursery place or registered an interest in a school place for the following year. This year we have had four families who made late applications for school places and these have not yet been sorted out fully so it is important that parents do register at the right time.

Transition visits

Y6 children will all be attending transition day visits. Each school does this in a different way and information is only sent to the family directly. We do not have a copy of any of the various arrangements. The children make their own way to the secondary school on these days and will be registered by them. They usually attend wearing the school uniform of the primary school they attend and each letter should indicate lunch arrangements for the day.

Trips

The teachers have tried to arrange some end of year trips for the children. Transport is very expensive for such trips and I know the cost can be a worry to some parents. If your child is on free school meals please mark FREE on the letter but if you do not receive FSM and are finding it difficult to pay please let us know. I am more than happy to use school fund to help anyone finding life difficult at the moment.

HSA Fun day

The home school association are going to hold a Funday on Friday 11th July during the school day. There will be the usual array of stalls eg bouncy castles, face paints, second hand books, second hand uniform, toys etc. Everyone is asked to join in and support this event in any way they can. Could you please start to think about this event if you are doing any sorting out or clearing out at home over the next few weeks. At the start of July we will ask if any items for the fair can be sent into school (we cannot take them before that day). Then if you are free please come along on the day to join in the fun!

The Home school have worked really hard this year and intend to spend the funds raised on playground equipment for the children to use. Thank you very much to all members of this group.

School organisation for September

The final details of school organisation for September are not yet fully sorted. Parents and children will be informed of the names of new staff and the name of their class teacher in September as soon as possible. We will be moving some classrooms around at the end of year in order to begin preparations for the extra class in KS2.

Leaver’s Mass

Mass on the last day will be in Church. The time of 10.00am is yet to be confirmed by Father. This will be a chance to say goodbye to Mr Curtis and Mrs Farmer and thank them for all their hard work at St. Joseph’s. It will also be a chance to say Goodbye and Good Luck to all our Year 6 pupils before they move on to secondary school. I mention them here so that everyone can recognise their contribution to the school.

Thank you Lucy, Olivia, Blake, Elena, Ethan, Siobhan, Cameron. Aleks, Robert, Abbie, Madison, Ciaran, Joseph, Jillian, Freya, Finlaecgh, Louie, Megan, Reece, Devonte and Nathan.

Best Wishes,

Sheila Partington
