Charity Work

Charities

At our school, we believe that caring for others is central to following in the footsteps of Jesus and living out our Catholic values. Through helping charities, we do three important things:

1. We live our faith in action.

As a Catholic school, we are guided by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching — for example, the call to care for the poor and vulnerable, to respect the dignity of every person, and to work for the common good. By supporting charitable work, we turn our faith into action, showing that we are committed to making a difference in our local, national and global community.

2. We nurture compassionate and responsible young people.

When children engage in charity‑work — organising collections, fundraising, volunteering — they learn important life‑skills like empathy, kindness, leadership and service. This helps children to grow morally, socially and spiritually.

3. We build a better world together.

Charities often reach parts of our world where children, families or communities are suffering from poverty, injustice or crisis. By supporting them, we affirm our belief that we are part of a larger human family and that we share responsibility for one another.

What this looks like here at St Joseph’s

  • Our pupils lead fundraising events and collections for local food banks, national appeals and international charities.
  • We incorporate charitable themes into our assemblies and classroom work — linking them to our mission and values.
  • We celebrate our efforts and reflect on how our contributions make a real difference for others.
  • We ensure that children understand why we are doing this: not just raising money, but showing care, compassion and justice.

How you can support us

  • Join in with our upcoming charity days and events.
  • Encourage your child to participate and reflect on what it means to give.
  • Donate items or funds when we ask — every little help counts.
  • Talk at home with your child about how our contributions help others and why it matters.
